Aberfoyle Lodge

Aberfoyle Lodge is set amongst the tea estates of Eastern Highlands Plantations in the Honde Valley and tropical riparian forest and must be one of Zimbabwe's best kept travel secrets. Guests horse ride on the many surrounding trails, kayak and fish on the Nyawamba Dam for yellow-tail, tiger, bream, bass and trout. Or go rambling on nature and forest walks, take tours of the Wamba tea factory, the organic pepper gardens, the Tea Estates Hydro Electric Plant and go birding, as Aberfoyle is unique in its amazing variety and has very knowledgeable guides, with opportunities to sight some of the rarest birds in Zimbabwe and the region. The estate can be reached from the Juliasdale-Mutare road with tar all the way down the Manga Pass, into the Honde Valley, passing the Mutarazi Falls, the country’s highest falls, and past Hauna growth point, the final six kilometres being on a gravel road. There is accommodation for up to thirty-six guests and it is the ideal of venue for small conferences, or as a quiet getaway. Guests can use the nine hole golf course, swimming pool, squash court, table tennis, darts and pub, or snooker room. Other more adventurous activities include mountain hiking of various degrees of difficulty, white-water rafting and a very unique tree canopy tour with Far and Wide where you can zip down cables from platform to platform and have a wonderful birding experience high in the giant Forest Newtonia trees.
